Richard is a Bristol City Councillor for the ward of Bishopsworth.

His Committee appointments include; Development Control B Committee, the Dundry View Neighbourhood Partnership, the Human Resources Committee, the Licensing Committee, The Member Forum, Public Safety and Protection Committee and the Selection Committee.

He is also part of the Bristol Shopping Quarter Forum, Destination Bristol and the University of Bristol Court.
