FURIOUS Motorists say New Bus Lane is Causing Chaos.
Local councillor Liz Brennan has called for an urgent review of the bus lane and 2+ occupancy lane at Hambrook Junction and Bromley Heath Roundabout, warning the current layout is “not working as intended” and risks becoming even worse as thousands of new homes are built across South Gloucestershire. While residents and businesses welcomed the reopening of Hambrook Junction and the return of right turns, many have raised concerns that the short bus lane and car-share lane were never part of the original campaign to improve access.
The current arrangement has effectively reduced one of the area’s busiest roads from three lanes to two and at times just one, creating severe congestion and long tailbacks into Bromley Heath and Frenchay, particularly during peak travel hours.
Cllr Brennan said "the situation has become so bad that even buses are now getting stuck in the traffic the scheme was designed to reduce".
With 22,000 new homes proposed under the Lib Dem/ Labour council’s Local Plan, Cllr Brennan warned pressure on the road network will continue to grow unless urgent action is taken. She is now calling for a full, evidence-based review of the junction and for residents’ concerns to be properly heard.
