Anti-social behaviour is causing problems in Chipping Sodbury, and a Conservative councillor is trying to get it sorted.
Cllr Becky Romaine, who represents the area on South Gloucestershire Council, is urging the authority to tackle anti-social behaviour following a recent rise in reports.
Becky has been speaking to local residents and business owners who have complained about increases in anti-social behaviour in the town, particularly on the High Street at night.
It comes after the Chipping Sodbury street marshal service came to end in the spring. The street marshals played a vital role in preventing anti-social behaviour and keeping the community safe, and businesses have reported that since the service has ended, incidents of anti-social behaviour have become more frequent.
As a result, Becky is urging the Liberal Democrat/Labour coalition in charge of South Gloucestershire Council to do more to tackle anti-social behaviour and to keep residents safe at night.
She has launched a petition to collect peoples’ views and is lobbying the council to take appropriate action. Becky has been told that the council will increase its outreach activity to help combat anti-social behaviour, but so far no outreach team has been seen in Chipping Sodbury.
Becky said: “Since the street marshal service came to an end earlier this year, we have sadly seen an increase in anti-social behaviour in the town.
“I’m urging the council to take a more proactive approach to tackling the problem as it’s clear that what’s current in place is simply not good enough.
“Chipping Sodbury is a wonderful place to live and residents and business owners should not be made to feel unsafe in their own town.”
