Bristol Conservative Councillors have unanimously backed their existing leadership team for the new civic year.
Under adopted national Party rules, a formal procedure of nomination and selection takes place annually prior to attendance at the Full Council AGM (to be held on Tuesday, 13th May).
A virtual Conservative Group AGM took place on Wednesday, 7th May, and all the holders of the principal positions were returned in an uncontested election.
As a result, Cllr Mark Weston remains Leader of the Group, Cllr Graham Morris continues as Deputy Leader, and Cllr John Goulandris carries on as their Chief Whip.
Cllr Weston (Henbury & Brentry) said: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank my colleagues for their continued support, trust and confidence in my leadership.
“It is a tremendous privilege to undertake this role and work with a group of exceptionally capable people, most of whom have many professional and personal demands on their time.
“The adoption of the Committee-system has also thrown up a seemingly ever-growing number of Council commitments which is straining a finite Member resource.
“Nevertheless, my Group will continue to apply and advance Conservative principles to the challenges ahead.
“We promise to strive to hold the Green-led Administration to account for their often damaging and counterproductive policies.
“This remains a very difficult task, but we are undaunted by the political mountain to be climbed.
“Indeed, this reality only acts to strengthen our resolve to defend the best interests of the people of Bristol.”
