TORIES CHALLENGE LIB DEMS TO 'BACK-UP OR SHUT-UP'!

Tory Councillors have challenged the Liberal Democrats to back their bid to throw out the City's minority Labour Administration at an Extraordinary Council Meeting tomorrow.

The current political storm was prompted by last month's Cabinet decision to press ahead with the closure of Stockwood Green and St Pius X RC primaries while offering a temporary reprieve to St George CE
school.

Opposition Conservatives immediately announced they were calling an Extraordinary Council Meeting to bring a vote of no confidence in the Labour Administration and remove Councillor Helen Holland as Leader of Council. The meeting will be held tomorrow, Tuesday, 10th February, at the Council House, starting at 2.00 pm.

Tory Leader Councillor Richard Eddy said: “Labour's determination to press ahead regardless with the school closures demonstrates that they have abandoned their pledge to work in a collaborative way, as Helen Holland promised when she took over the reigns of power two years ago.

“The majority of Council has strongly opposed Labour's brutal primary school closures, blind support for a mass-burn incinerator at Avonmouth and heartless plans to shut more residential care homes.

“Lib Dem leader Barbara Janke has repeatedly proclaimed that, if her party were in control, the Council would be run entirely differently.

“Now is the time for Cllr Janke and her colleagues to have the courage of their alleged convictions.

“If they fail to join us in ending Labour misrule, the Lib Dems will be revealed - yet again - as running scared and truly terrified of putting their promises into action."
