Charlotte Leslie and Adeela Shafi help launch campaign

over Labour's Debt Crisis

CAMPAIGNERS in Bristol have helped launch The Conservatives' advertising campaign to highlight the human consequences of Labour's Debt Crisis.

Charlotte Leslie and Adeela Shafi visited the site of a new poster, unveiled today as part of the campaign, in Cribbs Causeway, Bristol. It was one of a number of similar sites both in Bristol and the South West region unveiled today.

The campaign includes a poster and an online film and shows a four week old baby alongside the slogan 'Dad's Nose. Mum's Eyes. Gordon Brown's Debt'.

Gordon Brown's answer to the crisis has been to borrow even more money, taking our national debt to record levels. As a result a new born baby will come into the world saddled with a debt of £17,000.

Speaking after the launch Charlotte, the Conservative Prospective MP for Bristol North West said: "This vital campaign is about ensuring that future generations have a better life by stopping this Government from borrowing so much money.

"Today's figures from the Conservatives show every child born in Britain this year - including Bristol - will be a staggering £17,000 in debt, which will take decades to pay off.

"The Labour Government is sacrificing tomorrow for the political convenience of today. This campaign should be the start of changing this horrendous situation and putting it right."

Adeela, the Conservative Prospective MP for Bristol East and who took her son Zaman to the launch added: "This poster and the campaign around it is urgently needed, to ensure that the necessary change is delivered.

"We have all got to do what we can to stop this Government before they bankrupt our economy and bankrupt our children's future. This Labour Government is mortgaging our future - and our children's future. We all deserve better."

Speaking after the national launch George Osborne MP, the Shadow Chancellor, said: George Osborne said: "Every child is born already owing £17,000 in national debt.

"That's the startling truth about Labour's debt crisis: we and our children will spend the rest of their lives paying for it.

"Labour's debt crisis is making the recession longer and deeper.  Their extra borrowing means higher taxes on jobs, businesses and everyone earning over £20,000.

"Britain now faces a choice between an irresponsible Labour Government that has lived beyond its means, and responsible Conservative Government that will live within its means."
