Bristol West

Nick Yarker
West Country born and bred, Nick grew up in Dorset before getting an art scholarship to Clifton College. For five years he lived next to Bristol Zoo, in what John Betjeman called “the most beautiful suburb in the world.”

He went on to study history at Oxford University, and has nearly ten years business experience, working for one of the UK’s best advertising agencies. He is also a local councillor for a mixed inner-city area.

When he can, Nick likes to cook for his friends, and occasionally manages to catch the odd fish to serve them!

Nick was selected as the Conservatives’ parliamentary candidate for Bristol West in January 2008. In 2006 he was elected to Westminster City Council, which regularly sets one of the lowest council taxes in Britain. He has experience representing a mixed inner-city area, and finding a voice for all local people, including pioneering bi-lingual surgeries for the large Bangladeshi community. He will use this experience to fight for residents right across Bristol West. Nick has campaigned actively for the Conservatives since the mid 1990’s.

Nick is passionate that every child in Bristol should have the opportunity of an excellent education, so parents can feel confident bringing their families up in this great city. Yet too many children in Bristol are leaving schools without any qualifications at all. Nick will campaign to improve standards in education so that every child in Bristol West has the opportunity to reach their potential.

Nick’s campaign will reach right across Bristol West. Issues such as poor public transport, and the need to free up the police to do their jobs, affect every resident. There are no no-go areas for the Conservatives. Nick is looking forward to engaging with every section of the community, to campaign for a better quality of life and a better government for Bristol, and for Britain.
