The Bristol and South Gloucestershire Federation covers six constituencies: Bristol East, Bristol West, Bristol North West, Bristol South, Filton and Bradley Stoke, and Kingswood. Three of these are held by Conservative MPs who represent their constituents in Parliament at Westminster.
The Federation office is run by the Group Agent, who is the Chief Executive Officer. He requires the help of volunteers to assist with campaigning and fund raising work. The Agent, Mark Merchant, is a qualified Conservative Party Agent and he is ably assisted by Sue Bristowe, our administrator, who may be the first person you speak to when you phone the office. There are times when additional clerical help is needed, such as when a large mailing is to go out, or at election times, and at those times we call upon members to come in a help stuff envelopes.
The branches are responsible for a large amount of work of the Association, in campaigning and fundraising. They undertake canvassing, deliver literature and organising events, as well as holding frequent membership drives.
Supporting our fundraising activities is as important a way of helping the Association as any other. We hold two constituency wide draws each year, as well as holding appeals for money to go towards our fighting fund for each election campaign. It might seem that we are always asking for money, but most of the party's funds come from the subscriptions and the efforts of our members.
The Federation is organised as follows:
- An Executive Council, which provides strategic direction to the federation. The executive is composed of the Constituency Officers, representatives from each branch, MPs and MEPs.
- A Management Committee who are responsible for managing the Constituency Federation. The officers are Chairman, Deputy Chairman (Political), Deputy Chairman (Membership and Finance), Treasurer and a representative from each of the constituencies. These officers are elected each year at the Annual General Meeting.
- A series of Branches that represent association members in each ward. Each branch has its own elected officers.
